Iced Sugar Cookies

Want a fun and yummy way to let out your creativity? The iced sugar cookies are perfect, not only because they taste like heaven - they are extremely fun to make and decorate. This recipe is perfect for making by yourself, with a friend or even a child who might enjoy the icing and decorating portion.

ICED SUGAR COOKIES

PREP TIME: 20 mins | COOKING TIME: 10-15 mins | MAKES: 12-15


INGREDIENTS

For the cookies: 
  • 100g butter
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 225g plain flour  
For the water icing: (can use royal icing as a substitute)
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons hot water
  • Food colouring (optional)
  • Decorations such as silver balls, sprinkles (optional)

EXTRA EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

  • 2 baking trays 
  • Cling film
  • Cookie cutters
  • Rolling pin

METHOD

To make the cookies: 
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius 
  2. Lay out non stick baking paper onto trays
  3. Mix butter and sugar until it's light and fluffy
  4. Add in the egg and mix well
  5. Sift the flour into the bowl and mix the flour using your hands
  6. Kneed the mixture into a smooth dough using your hands
  7. Wrap in cling film and place into the fridge for 15 minutes
  8. Flour a surface and rolling pin
  9. Take the dough out and roll it out on the surface 
  10. Roll to about 1-2 cm thickness 
  11. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes 
  12. Place biscuits onto tray and put into the oven
  13. Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown
  14. Lift them onto a wire rack to cool
To decorate the cookies: 
  1. Sift icing sugar into a bowl 
  2. Add in enough water to make it into a smooth paste
  3. Add a drop of food colouring 
  4. Spread/ice it on. (I used a knife to spread it on)
  5. Decorate
